| Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in Samsung Open Source Escargot allows Oversized Serialized Data Payloads.
This issue affects Escargot: 590345cc6258317c5da850d846ce6baaf2afc2d3. |
| A vulnerability was found in libxml2 up to 2.14.5. It has been declared as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function xmlParseSGMLCatalog of the component xmlcatalog. The manipulation leads to uncontrolled recursion. Attacking locally is a requirement. The exploit has been disclosed to the public and may be used. The real existence of this vulnerability is still doubted at the moment. The code maintainer explains, that "[t]he issue can only be triggered with untrusted SGML catalogs and it makes absolutely no sense to use untrusted catalogs. I also doubt that anyone is still using SGML catalogs at all." |
| Billy is an interface filesystem abstraction for Go. Prior to versions 5.9.0 and 6.0.0-alpha.1, multiple components may improperly handle crafted or malformed input, resulting in panics, infinite loops, uncontrolled recursion, or excessive resource consumption. These issues arise from insufficient validation and missing safety mechanisms such as cycle detection, recursion limits, or defensive handling of unexpected states when processing untrusted repository data and filesystem structures. This issue has been patched in versions 5.9.0 and 6.0.0-alpha.1. |
| .NET Core and Visual Studio Denial of Service Vulnerability |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
powerpc/eeh: fix recursive pci_lock_rescan_remove locking in EEH event handling
The recent commit 1010b4c012b0 ("powerpc/eeh: Make EEH driver device
hotplug safe") restructured the EEH driver to improve synchronization
with the PCI hotplug layer.
However, it inadvertently moved pci_lock_rescan_remove() outside its
intended scope in eeh_handle_normal_event(), leading to broken PCI
error reporting and improper EEH event triggering. Specifically,
eeh_handle_normal_event() acquired pci_lock_rescan_remove() before
calling eeh_pe_bus_get(), but eeh_pe_bus_get() itself attempts to
acquire the same lock internally, causing nested locking and disrupting
normal EEH event handling paths.
This patch adds a boolean parameter do_lock to _eeh_pe_bus_get(),
with two public wrappers:
eeh_pe_bus_get() with locking enabled.
eeh_pe_bus_get_nolock() that skips locking.
Callers that already hold pci_lock_rescan_remove() now use
eeh_pe_bus_get_nolock() to avoid recursive lock acquisition.
Additionally, pci_lock_rescan_remove() calls are restored to the correct
position—after eeh_pe_bus_get() and immediately before iterating affected
PEs and devices. This ensures EEH-triggered PCI removes occur under proper
bus rescan locking without recursive lock contention.
The eeh_pe_loc_get() function has been split into two functions:
eeh_pe_loc_get(struct eeh_pe *pe) which retrieves the loc for given PE.
eeh_pe_loc_get_bus(struct pci_bus *bus) which retrieves the location
code for given bus.
This resolves lockdep warnings such as:

| IBM i 7.6, 7.5, 7.4, and 7.3 s vulnerable to a denial-of-service attack due to uncontrolled recursion in the Integrated Language Environment (ILE) compiler. An authenticated attacker could exploit this vulnerability by compiling specially crafted source code containing a specific combination of statements. |
| go-ipld-prime is an implementation of the InterPlanetary Linked Data (IPLD) spec interfaces, a batteries-included codec implementations of IPLD for CBOR and JSON, and tooling for basic operations on IPLD objects. Prior to 0.23.0, the DAG-CBOR and DAG-JSON decoders recurse on each nested map or list without a depth limit. A payload containing deeply nested collections causes the decoder to recurse once per level, growing the goroutine stack until the Go runtime terminates the process with a fatal stack overflow (distinct from a recoverable panic). This vulnerability is fixed in 0.23.0. |
| eml_parser serves as a python module for parsing eml files and returning various information found in the e-mail as well as computed information. Prior to 3.0.1, EmlParser.get_raw_body_text() recurses unconditionally for every nested message/rfc822 attachment without any depth limit. An attacker who can supply a badly crafted EML file with approximately 120 nested message/rfc822 parts triggers an unhandled RecursionError and aborts parsing of the message. A 12 KB EML file is enough to crash a worker. Though this causes the parser to crash, it is an unlikely scenario as the suggested EML that crashes the parser would not pass basic RFC compliance tests. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.0.1. |
| In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:
net: add xmit recursion limit to tunnel xmit functions
Tunnel xmit functions (iptunnel_xmit, ip6tunnel_xmit) lack their own
recursion limit. When a bond device in broadcast mode has GRE tap
interfaces as slaves, and those GRE tunnels route back through the
bond, multicast/broadcast traffic triggers infinite recursion between
bond_xmit_broadcast() and ip_tunnel_xmit()/ip6_tnl_xmit(), causing
kernel stack overflow.
The existing XMIT_RECURSION_LIMIT (8) in the no-qdisc path is not
sufficient because tunnel recursion involves route lookups and full IP
output, consuming much more stack per level. Use a lower limit of 4
(IP_TUNNEL_RECURSION_LIMIT) to prevent overflow.
Add recursion detection using dev_xmit_recursion helpers directly in
iptunnel_xmit() and ip6tunnel_xmit() to cover all IPv4/IPv6 tunnel
paths including UDP encapsulated tunnels (VXLAN, Geneve, etc.).
Move dev_xmit_recursion helpers from net/core/dev.h to public header
include/linux/netdevice.h so they can be used by tunnel code.

| Uncontrolled recursion in PostgreSQL SSL and GSS negotiation allows an attacker able to connect to a PostgreSQL AF_UNIX socket to achieve sustained denial of service. If SSL and GSS are both disabled, an attacker can do the same via access to a PostgreSQL TCP socket. Versions before PostgreSQL 18.4, 17.10, 16.14, 15.18, and 14.23 are affected. |
| NanaZip is an open source file archive. From 5.0.1252.0 to before 6.0.1698.0, an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability exists in the Electron Archive (ASAR) parser in NanaZip. When opening a crafted .asar file with deeply nested JSON in the header, both nlohmann::json::parse and the handler's GetAllPaths function recurse without depth limits, exhausting the thread stack and crashing the NanaZip process. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.0.1698.0. |
| Uncontrolled Recursion vulnerability in Apache Commons.
When processing an untrusted configuration file, Commons Configuration will throw a StackOverflowError for YAML input with cycles.
This issue affects Apache Commons: from 2.2 before 2.15.0.
Users are recommended to upgrade to version 2.15.0, which fixes the issue. |
| LiquidJS is a Shopify / GitHub Pages compatible template engine in pure JavaScript. Prior to version 10.25.7, a circular block reference in {% layout %} / {% block %} causes an infinite recursive loop, consuming all available memory (~4GB) and crashing the Node.js process with FATAL ERROR: JavaScript heap out of memory. This allows any user who can submit a Liquid template to perform a Denial of Service attack. This issue has been patched in version 10.25.7. |
| NanaZip is an open source file archive. From 5.0.1252.0 to before 6.0.1698.0, an uncontrolled recursion vulnerability exists in the UFS/UFS2 filesystem image parser in NanaZip. The function GetAllPaths recurses into subdirectories without any depth limit or visited-inode tracking. A crafted UFS image with a deep directory tree or an inode cycle causes stack exhaustion, crashing the NanaZip process. This vulnerability is fixed in 6.0.1698.0. |
| protobufjs compiles protobuf definitions into JavaScript (JS) functions. Prior to 7.5.8 and 8.2.0, protobufjs could recurse without a depth limit while expanding nested JSON descriptors through Root.fromJSON() and Namespace.addJSON(). A crafted JSON descriptor with deeply nested namespace definitions could cause the JavaScript call stack to be exhausted during descriptor loading. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.5.8 and 8.2.0. |
| jq is a command-line JSON processor. In 1.8.1 and earlier, unbounded recursion in jv_object_merge_recursive() allows a crafted jq program to crash the process with a segfault. The function is reachable through the * operator when both operands are objects. |
| jq is a command-line JSON processor. In 1.8.2rc1 and earlier, the ordinary module loader recurses without cycle detection when two
otherwise valid modules include each other. |
| jq is a command-line JSON processor. In 1.8.1 and earlier, jv_contains recurses into nested arrays/objects with no depth limit. With a sufficiently nested input structure (built programmatically with reduce, since the JSON parser caps at depth 10000), the C stack is exhausted. |
| Uncontrolled recursion in XPath evaluation in libxml2 up to and including version 2.9.14 allows a local attacker to cause a stack overflow via crafted expressions. XPath processing functions `xmlXPathRunEval`, `xmlXPathCtxtCompile`, and `xmlXPathEvalExpr` were resetting recursion depth to zero before making potentially recursive calls. When such functions were called recursively this could allow for uncontrolled recursion and lead to a stack overflow. These functions now preserve recursion depth across recursive calls, allowing recursion depth to be controlled. |
| Issuing an ICMP ping via the `net ping` shell command to a device's own IPv4 address causes the network stack to recursively re-enter the input path on the same system work-queue stack. Because the destination is recognized as a local address, both the echo request and the resulting echo reply are processed inline before the current frame returns. The nested input-path frames exceed the work-queue stack and trigger a stack overflow. |
